Born on 3rd August, 1947 in an agricultural family of Saranathan village in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu.
Started education at the native village without going to school upto 5th standard. At the age of 10 he studied in Little Flower High School at Kumbakonam town after migrating to that town from the native village. Studied B.Sc. in Government Arts College, Kumbakonam, which is considered as Cambridge of South India. Then Studied in the Law College at Madras, got S.l. Degree at the age of 22 years and enrolled as a lawyer on 13.8.1969.
Recruited as District Munsif on 29.6.1974, got promoted to Sub-Judge in 1982 and officiated as Chief Judicial Magistrate of Daly and Coimbatore Districts and then promoted to the rank of District Judge in 1995. Worked as Special Judge and Narcotic Judge etc. and Principal District Judge, Cuddalore, Presiding Officer under the Industrial Disputes Act and Chief Judge of Small Cause Court, Chennai.
Elevated to the Bench on 3.4.2003 as Judge of the High Court of Madras, served in Madras and Madurai Benches of the High Court of Madras and transferred to High Court of Orissa and assumed office as a Judge on 26.3.2008.
