Born on 25.9.1939 at Rampura village of Chitradurga District in the State of Karnataka. He did his school education at his native place and other places of the Chitradurga District. During 1961, he graduated from Bellary. Did his M.A. in Economics from Manasa Gangotri, Mysore. B.L. from Bangalore University in 1965 and Master in Law in 1967.
Enrolled as an Advocate on 27.10.1967. Started his practice in Bangalore in the lower Courts for some time and then shifted to High Court. Practised on writ, civil and criminal side. Served as Government Advocate of the High Court of Karnataka at Bangalore for some years. Elevated as Judge of Karnataka High Court on 29.3.1990, Transferred to Andhra Pradesh High Court on 28.4.1994 and served as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court from 17.2.2001 - 24.9.2001.
