PIL Case Details

The petition was filed expressing concern over unfilled sanctioned posts of doctors in Odisha for many years. It raised a number of other issues including lack of equipment, medical drugs, drinking water, sanitation facilities, doctors skipping duties in government - run hospitals etc. Through an order dated 17 th November 2021, the High Court appointed committees under every District Legal Services Authority to undertake surprise inspections to record whether all assigned medical staff were in posi tion and in attendance. Through an order dated 21 st May 2022, the Court highlighted some of the major issues in the reports noting, among other things, instances of patients being compelled to get their diagnostic tests including MRIs and CT scans from a p rivate facility at their own cost.
