PIL Case Details

This PIL challenges governmental inaction towards the issue of water pollution caused by the waste discharge of Arya Iron & Steel Private Ltd Company in the river Karo, which is the only means of potable water for the whole area thereby endangering the lives of people dependant on the river water. The petitioners argue that the polluted river water is directly linked to various allergic diseases suffered by those vi llagers who regularly consume and use this river water. The petitioner prays that Arya Iron and Steel Pvt Ltd. Be directed to stop discharging the Steel Plant’s waste into the riser water immediately, and to compensate villagers. Additionally it seeks that the State Pollution Control Board be directed to restrain and prohibit any person from polluting any stream or well.
